During a common day, the third angel attacks (in abscense of Gendoh); in this way, we know what a common day means to Shinji Ikari.
Well, life must continue after all. Our heroe is receiving training, and we can know some additional details of the Eva: it receives energy from an external cable, and (if it is retired), from a battery by one minute -or five at minimal efficience-; why did he choose to pilot the Eva? because he always do what everybody asks him to do. Shinji is transfered to a local school, but he's not ok; Misato says to Ritsuko that nobody has phoned him, even to his new celular. Ritsuko tells Misato about the hedgegog's dilemma: a hedgegog wants to transmit its hotness to others; but while they get nearer they hurt more: an excellent definiion of Shinji's feelings.
In the school we met new characters: Kensuke Aida is being scolded by Hikari Horaki, the delegate of the classroom, because he hasn't send the homeworks to the two-days-absent classmate Tohji Suzuhara. In that moment, Tohji appears, surprising Kensuke and Hikari. Kensuke seems very impressed by the army, he knows a lot about weapons, and the last fight has got him very excited. The feeling is not shared by Tohji, who is very angry: his sister was hurt in the attack, and he thinks the fall was the own Eva's. The both suspect that the misterious new pupil is the pilot: our friend Shinji.
In a very fun class of history -my favorite matter-, our heroe's classmates discover who is him. Very quietly, they ask him every detail about the Eva (to Kensuke's enjoyment); but Tohji is not looking happily to all this scandal. Tohji is completely upset and after the class applies Shinji two fists that take him KO. Of course, Shinji does NOT do anything to avoid it. Kensuke explains that those fists were because Tohji's sister was hurt during the attack. It's supposed that Rei saw the incident from the classroom window and went to tell Shinji that the red alert would be activated. Meanwhile, the fourth angel is entering the city.

The defenses are preparing: Tokyo-3 goes into combat mode, the pilot enters into his unit and civilians are moved to refugees... except two ones: Kensuke convinces Tohji to escape and they are witness of first row to watch the combat. But the combat is not going so well to Shinji, the angel starts the fight very well and Shinji is also afraid of receiving more fists from Tohji. The Eva is thrown off the city, directly to his classmates: Shinji can't do so much if he doesn't want to hurt his friends. Misato takes a decission: Kensuke and Tohji must enter to the entry plug and Shinji must retire from the battlefield. The first is obeyed; but Shinji desperatly goes directly to the angel, screaming, and defeats it in the last second of the Eva's operation.
At the classroom, Kensuke and Tohji are talking about the incident; Shinji hasn't gone to school. Tohji is worried about him; but he doen's want to accept that, so Kensuke gives him the "new pupil"'s phone. Outside the rain falls, Tohji calls Shinji and hangs up.
