The Evangelion characters belog to those few one that are excellent made, specially for a TV series; everyone has a story, a ilussion, a goal. It's very difficult to choose a favorite; but I guess Misato is the one who receive the claps here:

The seudo-heroe of the serie: shy, unsocial and coward. Shinji's life has been marked by the death of his mother and the hard life-style of his father. He does what you say him to do, always; he never decides by himself: but waits to be pressed by other. Ikari S. closes his eyes to the reality and to the true possibilities that it offers; he makes his own world where he can be happy, where he "can't be hurt".

Her first aparition is not clear; it seems to be a Shinji's vision just before the Saquiel's attack (that point was never cleared after). Rei is a very quiet and desinsterested-in-life girl. In her classmate Kensuke's words, she doesn't value her life. Her origin is enigmatic, neither her birth nor her age is known; and also if she is exactly a human. She seems to establish a relation with Shinji's father; but the nature of it is not secure, has she fall in love? does she admirates Gendou? The revelation of the movie is surprising.

We have a very extrovert gril here, Asuka is the most popular in the school, the most secure -well, not after all- and the most beautiful -after Misato, of course-. But deep in this fantastic life is hidden her main trauma: her mother. She was selected to participate in a sinchronization test; but something went wrong and she turns a little less than crazy. After that, Asuka's mother thought that her daughter was a doll; that's why Asuka hates everything related to dolls. She doen't support Japan, even her mother is Japanese. All time she pressed herself to be the most everything, the number one; specially when she pilots the Eva 02 (she calls it "her" eva). But something is true: the Eva 02 is the worst in real combat, it has won just one battle (and two in combination); so everytime she fails, she gets depressed.

Katsuragi Misato

This is an example what can revenge do to you, Misato's life is based on her personal revenge and the confussion her father left when he saved her life. Supervivient of the Second Impact: his father put her in a rescue capsule and left her into the sea; when she was rescued, she was in a chaotic status: she hadn't talk to anyone until she was 20. In her first aparition, she rescued Shinji of the Saquiel's (the 3rd angel) attack. Appart of her dark side, she is very nice and beautiful; but also too lazy in home, and she makes a great effort taking care of Shinji and Asuka.

Ikari Gendou

His true name is Gendou Rokubungi. My heroe of the serie; he's a serious man with an incredible hardness in his acts. He's not conscious of what his acts and words do to others. The most "normal" relationship we know is the one with Ikari Yui, Shinji's mother (and world). After her death, he destroyed any rests of Yui, like photos and pictures (even her body); and adopted her last name. A question is missing: is Yui related to Rei? and... what does Rei exactly mean to Gendou?

Fuyutsuki Kouzou

Best "friend" of Gendou. It's not his fall, it's Gendou's. Kouzou was a professor in the Yui's university who participated together in an investigation, and he was a little bit like lost in love for she. He discovered serious evidences of the Second Impact secret and demanded serious explanations from Gendou. Then, Gendou conviced Fuyutsuki-sensei to join the Ikari's in the young Nerv, called Gerhin (brain in German); and finally Kouzou turned into the right arm of Gendou. Now, he keeps quiet; but what secret does he know about Gendou, Yui and Rei?
